Hey Workshop community,
I’m looking at getting a circular saw for an upcoming reno, I’m leaning towards Ryobi as majority of our other tools are Ryobi.. does anyone have the 18V 165mm circular saw from Ryobi and are you happy with it?
Thanks in advance,
Jess
Hi Jess (@prettyliving),
I've got that saw and I find it does the job of light trimming very well. It is easy to manoeuvre, light and doesn't scare me like larger more powerful models can. If you are planning on cutting mainly plywood, trimming up to 19mm thick boards or cutting 45mm thick timber to a length I would higher recommend it. If you are considering ripping 45mm thick timber down the full length at speed I would stick to a plugin version or opt for the Ryobi one 18v Brushless Circular Saw Skin Only.
In saying that it is a great trim saw and suits it's purpose perfectly.
Please let me know if you need further advice or had questions.
Mitchell
Hello @prettyliving Jess!
18v Ryobi at 165mm best buy! 18v is the current standard for the one plus series that allows you to buy the skin (tool) of any other ryobi product and the battery fits! As long as it has the one plus tag with same voltage she'll be sweet! At 165mm this is current standard of all the old electric corded units. Theres bargains to be made for compatible specialist blades in the market. The unit cuts through 2 inch sleepers with ease. Built a bedframe with one full charge. As long as you register the tool ryobi has fantastic after sales service should your saw have any issues. Its a mid range tool that can see you through some challenging diy projects. If your thinking of a starter saw this is it. Like any tool it should be looked after and not left in the elements. It should provide you with years of service.
Cheers!

Oh perfect! Thanks heaps for the feedback @redracer01 That’s exactly what I was hoping to hear. Sounds like a good one then. Off to Bunnings I go! 😁

One of the best tools I ever bought. Im often lazy and dont bother with my larger corded saw. I have used it for everthing from making cupboards, beds to fitting out flats. They are light and convenient. I have considered the larger brushless one but this one is just so convenient

Awesome thanks for that @JDE
Yeh I’m the same, we’re slowly changing everything over to Ryobi battery powered, but the few corded tools we still have I find to be my least favourite to use, simply cos it’s a pain having to get the extension cord out everytime.
