Hi I am wondering what products to use to repaint garden statues. Also do I need to prime them first and seal them?
Hello @Samantha44
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about repainting your garden statues.
If you have cement or masonry statues, I recommend sanding off as much of the old paint as you can. I then suggest washing them down with water and detergent then scrubbing it clean with a bristle brush. Spray the statue with 30 Seconds 1L Mould Off and rinse clean. Allow the statue to fully dry in the sun before you start painting. I suggest using Dulux 1L PRECISION White Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer and then use Dulux Weathersheild for the topcoat.
But if you have metal garden ornament, I suggest sanding the paint off the entire ornament and remove as much of the rust as possible. Wash the statue with water and detergent then scrub it clean with a bristle brush. Leave the statue in the sun until it is totally dry. I then suggest using the White Knight 0.125L Rust Guard Rust Converter on the steel statue. Wipe and dry off the excess fluid on the surface of the statue, allow the surface to air dry.
Once the surface is totally dry, I recommend using White Knight Rust Guard 300g Grey SLS Etch Primer Spray Paint and for the topcoat, I propose using White Knight 310g White Gloss Rust Guard Epoxy Enamel Spray Paint.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when working on your project.
