How to prevent pests and dirt coming into garage?

image.jpg

Hi,

I have turned my garage into a kitchen for my cake business and my local council needs me to block any gaps and holes from pests and dirt coming in.

any suggestions? Ideally something temporary as we don’t want any issues selling down the track.

thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kaitlyn_mennuni. We're pleased to have you join us and look forward to reading about all your projects and plans for around the house and garden.

Thanks for your question and photo. Could you please clarify whether the garage roll-a-door (and surround) is the only thing you need to seal?

Obviously you have a challenge with the door if you don't want to remove it completely as it is a moving mechanism and must have gaps to allow it to function correctly.

Have a look at the advice that our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts have shared in this previous discussion - How to seal a garage door to prevent dust?

and please let us know if anything is unclear or we can assist further.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason

Thanks so much for your reply!

I have used sealant on the outside of the garage where it meets the brick and filled the top with foam, so just need something to fill the gaps on the inside of the garage door.

I won't be using it as a functioning door, but still looking for a temporary filler.

Thanks again,

Kaitlyn

Re: How to prevent pests and dirt coming into garage?

Hello @Kaitlyn_mennuni

I propose using Tunnelcore 2250 x 1220 x 8mm UV White Translucent Double Wall PP Flute Board on the entire garage door to totally seal it. I recommend using two panels and mounting it with heavy-duty double-sided tape. It's important that it fits the wall and floor perfectly and once the panel is in position you then apply a silicone sealer on the edge to prevent any dust from entering the room whatsoever.

However, if the gap is more complex than that, please post another photo at a different angle in order to give us a better idea of what we're trying to seal. Once we see the picture, we'll be able to offer more suggestions.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric

Awesome that’s great!

it will be more for keeping out pests as well as dirt, but I like the sound of this. The gaps in the photo are the only gaps I need to fill as the rest of the gaps are filled with sealant.
