I wish to glue 2 pieces of acrylic and was seeking advice as to the best type of glue available for purchase and which would dry clear. Cheers
Sorry for the delay in responding @Moggy. Let me tag one of our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts in @EricL to see what product he would recommend using.
You might also like to let us know a little more detail about what the project is. It might influence Eric's recommendation if he knows how much force is going to be applied during use.
Thanks,
Jason
Hi Jason, Thank you for your message. I wish to glue 2 pieces as shown in the attached photo, which I would like to dry transparently. I look forward to further information. Cheers, Shaughn
Hello @Moggy
My apologies for the late response. Thanks for sharing your question about gluing acrylic together. I've been speaking to my paint specialist at the store about a clear adhesive for acrylic. He's mentioned LOCTITE 408 - Cyanoacrylate instant adhesive. But please allow me to make further inquiries to make sure that it dries clear without fogging the acrylic. As soon as I have more information, I'll get back to you.
Thank you for your patience.
Eric
Thanks Eric for your message. I will wait for your update. Cheers
Hello @Moggy,
Thank you for your patience. I've spoken to Loctite's information desk, and they agree that the Loctite 408 is a low blooming adhesive that can be used on acrylic. Low blooming means that it has the least amount of adhesive fumes that makes acrylic go foggy. They also mentioned to make sure that you have adequate ventilation so that the bloom is swept away by flowing air.
The glue is not a regularly stocked item but can be ordered from the special orders desk. Please note that it comes in a box quantity of 12 and is not sold individually.
Let me call on our experienced members @TedBear and @Prof for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Would acetone with a needle and syringe work in this case?

Hi Moggy..
Plastic fabrication Companies use a glue that has acrylic chips dissolved in Acetone..
This mix slows down the bonding time..and gives the operator time to accurately adjust any positioning that may be required..
It also then fuses the two pieces together and becomes one piece..not just bonded..
Prof...
Thank you for the information
