Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @George2024. We trust you'll get loads of help and inspiration for all your projects around the house and garden from our wonderful members.
Can you please clarify for us whether you still want to open the roller door regularly? Obviously if you still use the door, your options can be more limited as you can't install anything that will obstruct its movement and operation.
That said, this is a common challenge and you might get some ideas and inspiration from previous discussions such as:
Have a read and please clarify whether you want to continue using the door. Some photos of the door closed taken from the inside of the garage might also help members to see that gaps you'd like to address.
Thanks,
Jason
Hello @George2024
If you are looking at covering the small gap at the top of your roller door, I propose looking at using the Moroday MDS2B Self-Adhesive Black Econo Door-Seal. Keep in mind that it's critical that there should be enough space for the roller panels to clear the top of your garage door opening. If the seal is in the way as the rollers rise, then you might need to consider sealing it from the inside.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
Hi Eric, Thanks for your hint. However, Moroday's MDS2B Self-Adhesive Black Econo Door Seal would eventually fill the bottom gap. You have to glue it to something. I could not glue anything because there was a metal panel at the top and just yellowish bricks above it. My gap is at the top, as the roller door does not seal (i.e. ca. 1 cm gap between the roller and the metal panel). Very hot air with particles of quartz sand blows, in addition to heat radiation from the opposite wall (neighbour's house). So, the very top of the roller has an embedded smudge made of quartz particles (like Teflon on a frying pan). All those 'brush' solutions are for nothing. My garage is an oven. I have put polystyrene foam panels in place to limit internal heat radiation. I will seal the sides using a 1 cm thick roll of the ABELFLEX Expansion Joint Filler by ORMONOID from Bunnings (good for purpose and cheap; so far, pieces of timber do the job - better than brushes). The pictures I published are of my neighbour's garage door. He put a 5m long timber panel so I can do the same. Looking closely at the picture, you will also see a yellowish quartz smudge on this timber panel. Such is the power of the blow, i.e. frying quartz onto an obstacle (be it a timber panel or the metal top of a roller).
Hi @George2024
Thanks for the extra information regarding the garage door gap. If it is that severe, then the best option would be to put a timber panel across to stop or at least limit the quartz sand from entering your garage.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Hi Eric, thanks for your prompt response. It looks like I have no choice but a 5 m-long timber panel. The problem is where to get it in Perth (north side). All the offers I checked on the Internet are limited in length. I need 5 m long (not a centimetre shorter), some x 20 x 3+ thick, so it would not bend in a steamy and hot environment. I would be grateful for a hint on who could supply the requested size??? Most houses in the neighbourhood have it, but the builder who built my house saved money and did not do his job correctly. I asked neighbours, but they said they had just moved in and had no idea.

Hi @George2024,
This 185 x 30mm 6.0m F7 H3 Treated Pine Primed LOSP which when cut to 5 metres is perfect for your application is currently available at Bunnings Joondalup. If there are closer stores to you, I'd be happy to confirm availability for you if you'd let me know which store is best for you.
If you don't have the means to transport long timbers, we can arrange transport through our local delivery partners.
Let me know if you have any further questions or need further assistance.

Hi Jacob, many/many thanks for your hint. This is a perfect message for Christmas.
The closest Bunnings is in Clarkson/Mindarie.
Please do the magic that I pay and collect from Bunnings/Clarkson.
I will also need delivery as my wife refused to pack it for our Huyndai.
I used to buy from Bunnings with delivery, So there should not be any problem.
Please let me know when I could conclude the above deal.
I have already bought metal hangers that will join brick and timber.
Hi @George2024
Aside from the great advice by @JacobZ and @EricL, is it not viable to simply run a thick rubber seal across the front top edge of the garage door?
Nailbag
Hi @George2024,
Unfortunately, I'm not able to arrange payment and delivery from where I am, but I have spoken with the team at Mindarrie who currently have stock of the 185 x 30 6.0m F7 H3 Treated Pine Primed LOSP and have let them know you'll be in touch.
If you give them a ring on 08 9408 7200 and ask to speak with the Trade Desk, they will be able to arrange payment and delivery of the timber you need.
They'll likely ask you for an item number for the timber. The item number is 0053197.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
Jacob
