The Bunnings Workshop community can help with your home improvement projects.
Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.
Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.
What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?
Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.
What size cuts can be made and how much does it cost?
Cuts to timber and panels boards are rounded up to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts. The minimum length of cut timber is 600mm.
Customers are required to purchase any remaining offcuts measuring less than 1800mm.
Multiple timber cuts may incur a charge of $1 per cut.
Is this service available at my local Bunnings?
You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:
Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?
Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.
When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?
Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.
What if I want to do the cutting at home?
Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:
What if I can't get my timber home?
We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @faro82. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cutting MDF.
If you can let us know the store at which you received this advice, I'd be happy to contact them to find out if there is some reason they can not cut MDF at the moment. Could you also please let me know the exact product you needed cut?
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi @faro82 and @MitchellMc
I think you will find this to be the case at any timber yard with regards to providing a cutting service for any MDF product. For a number of years there has been strict industry guidelines put in place for both sanding and cutting MDF as it releases extremely fine dust particles that contain formaldehyde, being a known carcinogen. These can cause respiratory issues, skin irritation, and a potential increase the risk of cancer. As such they won't cut any MDF product. Domestic and commercial sites as well as manufacturing have even tighter regulations.

This update is quite delayed but but just wanted to give an update after my disappointment that Bunnings could no longer cut plywood to size.
I took the "plunge" as it is and picked up a track saw for cutting down plywood. Been a great investment to get it sized up for the table saw.
Hello @mattcabs
That is a beautiful speaker box! Would you happen to have a photo of the speaker box while you were assembling it? Will you be staining or painting the speaker.
Eric
I've been playing it so much I haven't got around to finishing it yet! But yeah i've gotta wrap it in vinyl and add the grille clothe to finish it so I'll throw some finished pics up soon hopefully!
Hi @mattcabs
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product, I'm sure it will look amazing once you have it covered up with the grills installed.

Hi Team,
Will the stores cut your 33mm thickness Specrite panels down to length?
I have been heard they may be unable to do the 33mm thickness panels as they are classified as a benchtop…
Cheers!
Hello @Will5
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us.
Yes, you are correct the panel saws are not allowed to cut Specrite panels. I propose investing in either a hand saw or an XU1 1200W 185mm Corded Circular Saw in order to cut the panel yourself.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
This looks sensational @mattcabs and brings back memories many decades ago when I used to make my own speaker boxes. Thought I don't think they ever had that good a finish. 👌
You should definitely share this project with the community as something a lot different than the usual project to empower some of those audiophiles out there.
