Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Update 14/08/2024: The Bunnings team have provided the following information on our cutting service.

Re: pc desk

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

is there any timeline for the service will be ready?.

I need to cut it down to 1500x 600mm and couple smaller rectangles sizes. If i need to do it at home is there any recommendations for tools on budget and type of saw that i need. Thank you

Re: pc desk

Hi Mitchel

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly!

Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and hence I won't be able to cut down long wood panels at home - I don't think I can get them into the lift to be honest.

Now I wonder whether bunnings can cut down any other type of treated pine, say H3 treated pine like this?

Thank you!

Re: pc desk

Hello @egabriandana

Let me make some enquiries regarding the availability of the service. In regards to the tool, you'll need a circular saw, and it comes in two types, a corded saw or a battery powered saw.  These units come with a standard blade that are capable of cutting through the project panels. It would also be a good idea to get some saw horses if you don't have a table to cut on.

Here is a handy link that should help: What circular saw do you recommend?

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: pc desk

Hello @miao90wen

The store should be able to cut the 140mmx28mm decking panel. However, it is the size of your elevator that has me worried. I suggest measuring the height available inside the elevator, this will then tell you what will fit inside or at least tell you where the decking panel must be cut.

A question you can ask your building manager is if your building has a service or freight elevator. If it does, it will allow you to carry larger pieces of timber and you won't have to compromise on the cutting length.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: pc desk

Hi @egabriandana

The service will eventually be available in the stores near Alexandria. At the moment there is no fixed period when that service will be commencing. Once the stores in your area have been trained and cleared for the service, I will post a message here.

Re: cutting easycraft panels

Hello @Karsha

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you for joining the discussion.

I'm sorry to hear that you could not get your panels cut. Unfortunately, there is a minimum cutting allowance of 300mm on the shop saws.

However, it is possible to cut the panel with a steady hand and a good handsaw. I recommend doing a few practice cuts on offcut timbre, before you attempt to cut the panel.

If you are doing a half wall project only a timber bead placed on top should be enough to hide any imperfections in the cut. My best advice is to clamp the panel to a table or sawhorse so that it does not shift while you are cutting it.

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a dust mask when working on your panel.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: pc desk

Hi Mitchel,

Just thought I could give an update in case someone else is researching on this same topic -

I eventually got my H4 treated pine sleeper cut down in Alexandria store last weekend  I can't thank the staff enough as they took on my 30-ish sleepers while also helping out other customers in between. Thinking back now, it might be a lot better if I come in on a weekday or give staff some heads up regarding the quantity of my order - I am just grateful that my problem is finally resolved and I can move on to the next stage of my small project

Thanks

Treated pine 200 x 100 sleeper

I'm purchasing 200 X 100 treated pine sleepers for a garden bed, are Bunnings able to cut those? I need 1200mm so a 2400 cut in half.
