A bespoke timber pergola with a clear polycarbonate sheeting roof to cover an outdoor kitchen.
I constructed this BBQ and brick structure some years back. The BBQ is a five-burner Matador purchased from Bunnings.
It was time to gather the timber and construct a shelter, using timber trusses and clear polycarbonate sheets, also purchased from Bunnings. This would allow plants to get enough sun but also offer protection from rain and hail. I also incorporated some temporary timber lattice for when temperatures reach the forties in summer.
The roofing structure also has a skylight over my existing water feature, which is mainly designed for aesthetic reasons, since lighting is not an issue. I also installed a ducted exhaust hood to direct smoke outside and an automated misting system to water plants since they are now under cover.
I primed and topcoated the timber with Dulux paint.
Polycarbonate sheets cut in eight triangles and overlapping by 10mm, held down by 20mm aluminium strips and stainless steel screws. Virtually indestructible.
Here is the skylight from below.
I think that we all have a creative side of us. It's a matter of building that self-confidence and not be afraid to fail.
