Sturdy metal brackets and polycarbonate roofing make an ingenious shelter for a car.
I made what I am calling a "half port" because I didn’t have room for a whole carport.
I just welded up a few brackets and added some polycarbonate roofing with aluminium trim. It should keep me dry when I transfer from my wheelchair into the car. It was made with everything from Bunnings on a special order.
Bunnings Workshop member wooshka made these brilliant timber screens to extend the available parking area in their carport.
Workshop member Beachbox gave their carport a stunning new look with these custom-built barn doors.

Afternoon @Super_D
"Everything from special orders" Did you get the angle iron welded up via special orders? I really didnt know that they do that. Also Nice awning Very handy and looks like a solid design!
Dave
Good afternoon Dave-1
Thanks for that, the awning works great and keeps me dry from the rain while I get my wheelchair out.
I did the welding myself, and had a few mates to help me put it up.
Afternoon @Super_D
Nice work then! That is one skill I have not really taken up, I did learn how to weld when i was 16ish with school but havnt trie dit since. I should as things keep coming iup where it would be handy to be able to weld.

Morning Dave-1
I do love welding, I have just taught myself, and a lot of practice, I am not the best welder but the welds I do are strong enough for what I do, I wouldn't weld a chassis for a trailer or the hitch, but I have welded bits onto a trailer. I just love putting bits of steel together and how strong it is. It is fun and the small inverter welders now are so small and a good price, I just picked up a small Ozito Inverter Arc Welder for Bunnings and I am happy with it.....
Impressive workmanship on the steelwork and overall design. You have picked up some great weather resistant storage space @Super_D

Hi @Super_D
What an awesome job.. this is exactly what I need to make for the side of my garage and luckily I know an excellent welder who might do that welding for me 🤞.
Have you found that it’s held up well in the wind and weather?
Also, was the aluminium trim you used bought pre-made as polycarbonate trim or did you custom make that also?
Finally, to assist in the ongoing enablement of my math inertia, do you happen to remember the approximate measurements and sizes of the materials you used?
Thank you for posting your inspiring project 😊
Kind Regards
Charlie

Hi @worldwomble
Thanks, the aluminium trim I used was bought and made as polycarbonate trim the only thing I needed was joiners to rivit in and as for
standing up to the weather, all good as all the storms dont come stright on to it. As for the steel I over did it for the size but it is solid.
I did order this all from Bunnigs..Happy to help with anyother questions... Have fun...
