Toilet water keeps running after changing gasket/washer

Hi,

I've changed the washers/gasket on the water release valve and the fill valve (in blue).

But water keeps rising up through the fill valve until it starts to overflow into the overflow pipe back into the bowl.

I'm not sure if it's something to do with the fill valve.

Re: Toilet water keeps running after changing gasket/washer

Hello @dant

Thanks for sharing your question about your toilet cistern. In order to identify the source of the leak, I suggest filling the cistern with water and once it's full turn off the cistern tap. If water continues to leak into the toilet pan, then the flushing valves seal is not sitting properly or is not compatible with the old valve. But if after turning the cistern tap off and there is no leak then it is the filling valve that needs looking at.

It appears that you have a classic Caroma inlet valve. these units are very picky and will only work properly with Caroma spares or Caroma certified spare parts. Some third-party valve seals just won't work with the older units. I can only suggest changing the inlet valve with a Caroma certified spare part. Once you've replaced the inlet valve seal, test it one more time to make sure that it seals properly.

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your cistern fixed and ready for use.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Re: Toilet water keeps running after changing gasket/washer

Thanks @EricL

I forgot to mention I had already turned off the water flow and no leak.  This was after changing the flush lever gasket.

Then I went and bought the seal for the inlet valve.  I will try and find a Caroma spare part.

I don't get it though as the whole unit keeps getting pushed up the fill pipe and pushes the second pic component higher and higher and the water just keeps coming up through the pipe in the first pic.

cheers

Re: Toilet water keeps running after changing gasket/washer

Hi @dant

When you reinstall the inlet valve, It's important that the unit is locked into place. I can't recall if it is twist to the left or right to lock the unit in place. I suggest giving it a test and finding out which direction locks the filling valve in place. This will prevent it from rising up as the cistern fills up with water.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Re: Toilet water keeps running after changing gasket/washer

Thanks @EricL

I went and bought a new one and the instructions were good.  I wonder now if I wasn't doing that last bit.  But now there's a small leak due to the flush valve and I don't know why!  Especially since there was no leak there previously.  I've tried a new one and the original one with no luck.  I will try another one and see.

Re: Toilet water keeps running after changing gasket/washer

Hi @dant

I was really hoping that all would go well once the filling valve was repaired. I propose looking at the Kinetic Seating Washers. It comes as a two-set piece, and I suggest using the orange one. In my experience it is very compatible to the old Caroma seating washers. Please make sure that it is seated dead centre so that there is no chance of a leak.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.
