Stained Silicone

Hello Team!

I am hoping for some help dealing with stained silicone in our new home. We’ve been in this home for about 7 months and I just can’t look at it anymore! I am convinced the orange/brown colour is from the dust/dirt during the build. I am unsure whether it can be cleaned, or whether it needs to be cut out and replaced?
Thanks!

Re: Stained Silicone

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @chelseajayne. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about sealant.

It sounds like the stained silicone might be difficult to clean if warm soapy water hasn’t worked. If the grime is persistent, it’s possible that it’s embedded in the silicone. Before assuming it's stained, I’d suggest trying a mould remover spray just in case there’s any mould causing the discolouration.

If that doesn't help and the silicone remains discoloured, you might need to replace it. Silicone can be tricky to clean once it's stained, and cutting out the old sealant and applying a fresh layer is often the best solution. Here’s a helpful guide on How to apply silicone sealant.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
