How to clean gold plated taps

I have gold plated taps and faucets, they are covered with green spots which I think is lime. Is there a solution I can use clean that deposit off.

Re: How to clean gold plated taps

Hi @norms

I would wet the taps with CLR first and let it sit for a while 30 mins maybe a couple of in between squirts.

I used to have gold taps so use a plastic pot cleaning sponge is less abrasive to clean the spots off to increase the taps visual appeal longer.

This should do the trick.  Wipe them more often now the green has appeared.

Hope this  helps.

Re: How to clean gold plated taps

Hi @norms,

Thank you for your question about cleaning gold plated taps.

Green spots on gold plated taps are likely due to mineral deposits, such as lime or calcium, combined with some oxidation or corrosion.

The method @Jewelleryrescue has mentioned, is basically what I would recommend.

You can soak them with CLR Ready To Use Calcium Lime Rust Remover then use a Non-Scratch Scourer Pad to remove the green deposits.

Let me know how you go.

Jacob
