How to replace timber door threshold?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some recommendations or ideas on how to replace an external laundry door threshold/sill.

I attached few photos. As you can see on the photos, it is completely damaged and rotten.

Because it is an external door, it is always exposed to rain. When it gets wet, it expands which makes it difficult to open or close the door.

I am looking for some solution that would be weather resistant.

What type of timber would you recommend to use? Does it need to be treated to make waterproof and what product to use? What paint would you recommend?

I am afraid that using timber, I will end up in a similar situation several years later and it will rot again.

So, I am wondering if there are some other products I can use instead of timber, for example, stone, tiles, metal, etc.

Re: How to replace timber door threshold?

Morning @alex27

Nice work on removing that old sill. As long as that surface is reasonably level, you could follow @Dave-1 suggestion to chip away the high-points. Then yes liquid nails would work, but would recommend the landscaping one that had better adhesion to concrete. Then I would also run a decent beed of silicone along the inside and out side edge. This should be adequate for protection from the weather, unless @JacobZ thinks a PVC flashing is a better option. Remember to allow the recommended curing time for the liquid nails to fully cure before using the sill.

Once you have cut the sill, and before installing, I would apply 2 coats of your paint or my preference a clear satin coat of Cabots oil to all sides.
