How to replace P-trap toilet?

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone could help us out to identify some extra parts we need to install a new toilet recently purchased from Bunnings. We have prepaid a plumber through an arrangement with Bunnings

The existing toilet is in a house built in the 70s
We have some photos.
(Wasn't sure what was relevant to measure so may have missed something or went over kill on it 😅)

The circumference of the pan collar pipe is: 35cm at the thinnest and 48cm at the biggest part
Length is 11.5cm

Other part of pipe is
circumference 37cm
and right at the back by the wall it's 35cm
Length 12.5cm

Toilet itself is 34.5cm round where it connects to pipe
But new toilet is 32.5cm.

But they look like they match up height wise, from the ground to the top of the pipe on both old and new, being 26cm roughly.

We have a plumber booked and he said he could get the extra parts and wouldn't charge extra labour to install them, however, we'd like to find the most economical deal as we're on a pension budget.

Any advice on part names or code numbers would be appreciated. The new toilet is a P trap and is a Estilo close coupled rimless suite, from Bunnings.

Thank you kindly for any help you can offer.

Re: How to replace P-trap toilet?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Beccilee. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about replacing toilet connections.

There is a fairly good chance that you could use the already installed parts. If they are at the correct height, then they should match up. A rubber seal in the last fitting connects to the toilet outlet, and it hopefully should suit the new toilet without adjustment. A quick coat of white paint and the old fittings will look like new.

I'd suggest the best course of action would be for the plumber to attempt the installation with the current fittings. It also sounds like a fairly good deal if they can provide any additional fitting and not charge labour for it. The cost of him providing the fittings or you providing the fittings would most likely be negligible.

That's an offset trap connector, a section of 100mm pipe and then a slip joint. Those parts are much the same as those that are already there, so you'd only be changing them over so they are new fittings.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mictchel,

Thanx so much for your help!

Just wondering, the pipe connections have been leaking we think? It's a bit hard to tell where exactly from, we put tp around the joins to see an flushed it a few times. If it is leaking around the offset trap connector, would it need replacing?

Re: How to replace P-trap toilet?

It's best to try and isolate where the leak is coming from @Beccilee. If you can't tell, I'd suggest replacing the lot. If you are going to the effort of replacing the toilet, it's best to replace everything so there are no leaks. It would be the pits if, after the new install, you are still experiencing a leak. Silicone might solve the situation, but it's really considered a band-aid solution.

@Beccilee

I am not sure if your plumber is giving you a good price for the installation of the new toilet, I did see that Bunnings offer to toilet replacement deal too, please see attached, might be helpful in comparing prices
