How to renovate laundry using Kaboodle cabinetry?

Hello.

We are wanting to DIY this laundry and have a Kaboodle Laundry all planned out. However we have some questions on timing and how to get started if you can please help (existing laundry and plans below):

  • What would the timing of the DIY install look like? Is it:
  1. Remove shelves and washer from laundry
  2. Plumber to disconnect current plumbing
  3. Remove trough from laundry
  4. Electrician to change power point location
  5. Install cabinetry
  6. Install benchtop
  7. Plumber replumbs laundry- connects sink
  8. Splashback to be tiled
  9. Move appliances back in

  • We have tile running down most of the wall, however as the plumbing will be moved to below the bench, we were wondering:
    • if all the tile needs to be removed?
    • do we just remove the tile above the bench height so it can be re-tiled above?
    • Would we be better off leaving all existing tiling and putting some vinyl tiles over the top to keep the waterproofing intact?
    • I've read waterproofing only needs to be up to 150mm- so if we left the bottom layer of tiles would that be sufficient?

Re: How to renovate laundry using Kaboodle cabinetry?

Hello @Starboard

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your laundry renovation.

I suggest having a quick look at this guide - How to plan a laundry renovation by @Adam_W. In regards to your renovations steps, it looks perfectly fine. To save yourselves a bit of tiling it is not necessary to remove all of the tiles only what needs to be removed due to plumbing. I'm not too sure about the vinyl tiles as some of tiles will need to removed due to the relocation of plumbing.

As to the waterproofing, I suggest double checking the rules and regulations in your area so that you know how much water proofing is needed. If 150mm is all that's needed, then you can stop at that point and not damage the wall further.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

That's great. Thanks very much for your help, Eric. Would you know if there is a guide to how to install the cabinetry to the wall, or does that come when it's purchased?

Re: How to renovate laundry using Kaboodle cabinetry?

Hello @Starboard

Installing your wall cabinets is pretty much like installing your base cabinets. You just need to make sure that there are studs behind them and that each cabinet must be securely screwed to each other to provide horizontal support. I suggest using Tradesman Stan the Stand Cabinet Levelling System or similar to support the wall cabinets while you are screwing them in.

I suggest getting a second pair of hands when installing your wall cabinets for safety.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @Starboard,

Just thought I'd add that you might find the guide How to assemble and install laundry cabinets by experienced member @Adam_W very useful.
