Re: How to remove corrosion on waste plugs and shower frame?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @tessi. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about corrosion.

It looks like many of these items have chrome plating, which can begin to tarnish and stain over time. After several years of use, the chrome coating can start to degrade, initially with pitting and eventually flaking off, exposing the metal beneath.

Your first sink waste is likely beyond repair due to the corrosion, but the second one might still be salvageable. You could try rejuvenating it with a mild abrasive cleaner, such as Gumption.

The corrosion on the shower frame is a result of the chrome layer flaking off, which leads to oxidation and visible damage, especially around the corners of the frame. Scuff it up with 180-grit sandpaper and then re-spray it with chrome paint to restore its appearance.

The buildup on the shower head bracket looks like a hard water scale, which you may be able to remove with vinegar. Let it sit on the surface for about 30 minutes, then scrub it off with a scourer.

The floor waste is probably stainless steel and should be able to be polished and restored using the Gumption, too.

You might also consider following this helpful guide and spray paint the sink wastes: How to spray paint a tap

Please let me know if you have any questions.
