Hey Bunnings Workshop legends!
We recently had our shower replaced in our rental place, and they have raised the height of the floor but not the height of the shower head.
The shower head currently doesn’t reach over our heads, and we have to bend down to be covered.
I would like to replace it with a taller shower head, but I feel like the ones on offer still won’t be tall enough (Would have to be at least 450mm height from the outlet).
Does anyone have any suggestions for this? How should I approach, are there shower head extenders available to make it taller?
Thanks!
Chris
Hello @httpmrchris
Thank you for sharing your question about increasing the height of your shower head. I've placed a suggestion below to give you an idea of how to extend the current plumbing. Please make sure to use the Protek 125ml Type P Green PVC Cement For High-Pressure Pipes. I also suggest scuffing the edges of the PVC pipe before you apply the glue.
Please note that you may have to do a few test fittings while you are at the store. What's important in this assembly is that the inlet must be 15mm in size and the outlet side must be 15mm as well. The elbows and pipe size can change but the two ends must remain constant so that it fits into your current plumbing.
I recommend using FIX-A-TAP 12mm x 8m Thread Seal Tape on both ends so that you won't get a leak.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi Eric,
thanks so much for taking the time to respond. That all sounds really helpful! Except, forgive my ignorance, what is the cement used for? I don’t trust myself to cement pipes together!
Good morning @httpmrchris
The cement is a syrupy coloured glue you apply to bind and seal the PVC connections. Available at Bunnings and all plumbing/hardware centres. Eric's idea is very clever solution.
"(Would have to be at least 450mm height from the outlet)."
So, no commercially available shower head extension would produce the height you're after?
Possibly a dumb solution - could we connect two of these? Probably too ungainly...🤔
Hi @httpmrchris,
I'm a fan of @Noyade's idea, as it's a relatively simple solution.
Are you the renter? If so, have you approached the property manager and expressed that the shower is totally un-usable since the floor height adjustment? I'd presume they wouldn't even be aware of the issue. It's reasonable to assume that if you're going to adjust the floor height substantially, then you'd also have to adjust the height of the fixtures to suit.
