How to fix grout over tile spacers?

The previous owners of my place did a bathroom renovation at some stage; most of the grout in the shower tiles appears in decent condition, but there are a few spots where the grout is worn, and you can see that these spots are where they have left in the tile spacers; I’m guessing these were accidentally left in place when the grouting was done.

What is the easiest fix for this? I really don’t want to redo all the grouting. I do plan on redoing the sealant/caulking around the bath/shower etc., can I use a little of this sealant to go over the worn grout/spacers? Or is there a better way to fix it so the spacers aren’t showing through?

Re: Fixing grout over spacers

Hello @Almico

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your tile grout.

Putting grout over the spacer is not an ideal solution as the grout will eventually perish and fall off. I suggest using a QEP Professional Grout Saw to file away the grout that is over the spacer. Once you can see the spacer, I suggest trying to remove it using a Trojan 4 Piece Pick Set. Once you've managed to remove the spacer from the tile gap, I suggest using the Dunlop 800g Ready-To-Go Coloured Grout in combination with a QEP 6" Handyman Squeegee to patch the tile gap and restore your grout line.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
