Hi DIYers!
I am planning to reconnect the washing machine to a standpipe that was recently installed by a plumber.
Do I need to buy a connector to fit the drain pipe? If not, how can I prevent overflow in case of a blockage?
Also, as you can see in the background of the pipe, there is a gap between the walls. What is the best product to fill this gap?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about connecting your washing machine hose.
The reason your plumber has put in a standpipe is so that you can hook your washing machine hose to the Kinetic PVC Washing Machine Hose Outlet U Bracket. If you still have your original "U" bracket, then you can use that instead of getting a new one. The purpose of the "U" bracket is to prevent the hose from kinking when attached to the drainpipe.
When the pipe gets kinked, it will impede the flow of water and will cause a flood in your washing machine. It's critical that you don't put the hose too deep into the standpipe. The exit hose of the washing machine acts life a garden hose, when water exits the hose, it gains momentum and pushes any foreign matter in the drain out and through the S trap thereby preventing flooding.
I've placed an image below to give you an idea of how the hose is supposed to be installed. The yellow section I've highlighted is where you need to place a screw or hook to keep the hose in place. I recommend using Ramset 8 x 50mm Universal Anchor - 4 Pack to hold the "U" bracket in place.
