Hi my washing machine is too far away from the drain outlet, so there is an extension hose which is connected to the Spigot (see pic) My old machine broke so connecting a new one. I would point out the new one is a second hand old top loader. Is it normal for the drain hose to smell badly. Im worried it shouldn’t be connected to the spigot, just in case it is back flo etc. Also, the new machine drain hose (black hose) is difficult to attach to the extension hose.
Thanks VJ
Hello @vatnurse67
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your washing machine.
Before connecting your washing machine to the extension waste pipe, I suggest using a Hillmark 75g ScalexPlus Appliance Cleaner And Freshener to clean, descale and deodorise your appliance. This should remove and reduce the smell coming from the washing machine hose. In order to connect the smaller hose to the larger extension piece, I suggest using Toro 19mm x 13mm Single Barbed Reducing Joiner. Please double check the hose sizes before you purchase the joiner.
To keep the hoses from pulling out, I suggest using a hose clamp on both sides of the connector.

thanks for the information Eric. So once I measure the hose for the washing machine drain hose and the extension drain hose. Do I then buy the same size or slightly smaller.
Hi @vatnurse67
You buy the size that will fit both hoses. I'm sure one side is 19mm because it is the default for the extension hose. But I am not sure about your black hose. Make sure to measure inside and outside, if you can bring the black hose with you even better.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
