How to add a basin to laundry?

Hi all - looking for some expert advice. I need to put a low-base washbasin in my laundry area. I will place the sink in the area that currently doesn't have tiles (see pics). Could you please advise if I should water proof this area and then put tiles on it or it is ok to just put tiles directly? Secondly, tiles or splash back, which one is a better option? Also any advice on the tools and materials to be used for putting tiles on a wall will be appreciated?

Re: How to add a basin to laundry?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mkshahzad. We're pleased to have you join us and look forward to seeing how you can transform your laundry.

Could we please trouble you for some wider shots of your laundry so we have a better idea of what you are working with? Some dimensions of the space would also be helpful for members to provide specific advice.

You should also find the guide How to plan a laundry renovation an excellent starting point. Experienced renovator Adam also shared a series of guides How to renovate a European-style laundry that shows you how to maximise room in a small space. It includes projects such as installing cabinetsadding a benchtop and tiling a splashback.

Hope that helps get you started.

Re: How to add a basin to laundry?

Hello @mkshahzad

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about adding a basin to your laundry.

Please note that any plumbing works must be carried out by a licensed plumber for safety and compliance.

I recommend engaging the services of a plumber and they will be able to tell you if a sink can be installed in that spot that you mentioned. They will also be able to verify if water proofing is needed in that section or if there is already water proofing installed in that area. Will the washing machine be moved out of the way? Is the basin going over the washing machine? Any extra information you can share with us would be very much appreciated.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
