I'm going through the process of replacing the taps in my bathroom basin, the basin is 60 years old, I want to give it one last hurrah, what I've got is as you can see from the pic is a rather ugly tap hole, any suggestions on how to tidy this area up, I'm not real fussy, I just want a reasonably attractive repair that will see the basin go for another 20 years, are there repair kits available ? will pink be a problem ? thanks Alec
Hello @alec3
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your hand basin.
I suspect that the rust on your basin is deposited rust from the tap. I suggest using a Craftright 5-in-1 Scraper and see if you can scrape the rust off the ceramic surface of the basin. If you can see the rest of the ceramic under the rust, there will be no need to sand the surface. However, if it is solid rust from the basin, it will be necessary to so sand the surface of the rusted part of the basin. I suggest using 180grit sandpaper to remove the rust, please make sure to stay within the rusted section of the basin.
To cover the rusted section of the basin, I suggest using Rust-Oleum 13.3ml White Tub And Tile Touch Up Kit. Please note that this product only comes in white and can't be tinted in a different colour. Once the touch up paint cures you now re-install the basin along with your new taps.
