How connect washing machine hose waste?

Hi,

We currently move to a new place and try to connect our front load washing machine waste to the pipe underneath the laundry sink (photo 1). However, we don't another spigot to connect the washing waste. Currently we have one spigot and it is connected to the heat pump dryer waste. It has a waste whole on the top of the sink, but there is no space to put the washing machines on the right to connect to that whole. We have a bench in our laudry which only give me an opinion of connect to the pipe underneath the sink.

My aim is to make another whole to connect the washing machine waste to the pipe.

I am thinking of taking out a part of the pipe (blue part- picture 2) and use a connection from the PVC to washing machines to the connect the waste Washing machine tub.

I found other people's pipe photo on the internet with the connection that I am looking for to buy (red part- photo 3) but I am can't find anywhere to buy this type of connection.

My question are:

- Do you think this will work?

- Does Bunnings sell that connection or any alternative connection that I can buy to connection between pvc to washing machine hose?

Our washing machine hose is 30-31mm

Thank you

Re: How connect washing machine hose waste

Hi @Tamdaolam,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question about connecting a waste hose in your new home.

Can you advise what the diameter of the PVC pipes is?

Generally, they will be 50mm, in which case you can use this Caroma 50mm Garbage Disposal Trap Adaptor With Dishwasher Connection.

You may get lucky, and everything will line up so you can simply unscrew and replace this piece before screwing everything back together.

If this is not the case, you will need a plumber to assist you with modifying and installing new pipes.

Once this tee piece has been changed, you can connect your washing machine's waste hose to the spigot on the new tee piece. Check out How to connect a dishwasher for an easy-to-follow guide.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob

Re: How connect washing machine hose waste

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for your reply and suggestion.

I am not sure which part that I need to measure so I did few measurements.

I took the blue part out (photo 2 in the previous post)

- I can't measure the other end which I need to connect to as I can't see the measure. So I measured the opposite pipe (photo 2)- it is around 43mm

- The connection to the pipe (photo 3) - it is around 48mm

- The pipe which was connected between them is around 34mm (photo 4)

Does the 50cm PVC connection work?

Thanks,

Re: How connect washing machine hose waste

Hi @Tamdaolam,

Upon review, this Caroma 50mm Double Bowl Connector is likely a better option as it is stocked in many of our stores whereas the one I previously recommended is a Special-Order item. This means you can take your pipe in-store to compare and ensure they will work together.

It is worth bringing the piece you've removed in-store to compare. I'm sure the Plumbing team at your local store would be happy to help confirm compatibility. Showing them, your photos will also help.

I've indicated the measurements that will be important below.

As long as the thread connections I have highlighted above are the same diameter, it should work fine.

From the connecting pieces you've measured, it seems like the 50mm connector will work.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob

Thanks. I will give it a try.

Re: How connect washing machine hose waste

Hi Jacob,

I went to Bunnings with the piece. Bunning staff couldn't find the piece that matches my piece. I ended up buying this instead as recommended by Bunnings staff https://www.bunnings.com.au/holman-50mm-s-p-trap-combo-set_p0503457

I changed the pipe and it looks good- like what I need (2 waste holes- photo attached). However, after running the water test from the tap, water just pull out from the two spigots even with a low water run. It does't happen like this with the old trap.

Do you know why the water is pulled out from the two spigots and do you know how to fix this ?

Thanks
