Hello again,
The guest toilet in our recently bought holiday home desperately needed some attention and working in a space with a footprint of less than 1sqm was the first challenge!
After swapping the old ‘standard’ toilet suite with one that has a hand wash basin (similar to the one at Bunnings: Caroma WELS, I/N: 4820814) I first applied some thin plaster and used a textured paint roller on the upper part of the walls to achieve a stippled look and cover up the previous, uneven filler patches.
This was followed by some bright white paint, rich wood stain and wall panelling (similar to the one at Bunnings: Easycraft Lining Panel, I/N: 0330364) for a Hampton-style wainscoting effect.
The wife took over with the finishing touches and decorations, all from her favorite Swedish furniture and home accessories store, and the end result guarantees a much more pleasant ‘experience’.
Hi @Fishvince,
You have done such a great job turning this uninviting space into a stunning functional Hamptons-style toilet your guests will love to use.

Thanks Katie 👍🏼
@Fishvince, I’ve not seen a basin in the top of a cistern before - how cool!
@MelC1 right!?
It is such a great idea for small toilet spaces! I hope you are finding great inspiration for your toilet makeover. If you need any advice along the way, we are happy to help.

Hi there,
Very impressive result! Could you please let me know if the toilet you used has a wall waste outlet or is a thru the floor waste outlet? My arrangement requires thru the wall but for a tiny 80cmX1.4m toilet room will be tight with a standard toilet with handbasin. Also do you find there is a minimum side space beside the toilet to allow handwashing? Many thanks for your assistance.
Hello and thanks for your message.
Our toilet has a floor waste outlet and handwashing does require a slight angling of the body [i.e. ‘sliding in sideways].
I hope this helps
