Does shower niche need to be fixed to the studs?

I was watching video "How to build a wall niche" and noticed the niche in the video is secured to the plasterboard instead of studs and noggins.https://www.bunnings.com.au/diy-advice/home-improvement/shelving-and-storage/how-to-build-a-wall-nic...

If I install a Mondella shower niche (https://www.bunnings.com.au/mondella-365-x-320-x-90mm-shower-niche_p0332308), can I use the same method? But manufacturer's instruction says the niche should be secured to studs and noggins (https://media.bunnings.com.au/api/public/content/0bec097b427848cebf0614a9993facdf?v=aeeac488).

Re: Does shower niche need to be fixed to the studs?

Hi @charlie0123,

Thank you for your question about installing a shower niche.

The niche used in the video How To Build a Wall Niche is a plaster niche, which is slightly different from the Mondella 365 x 320 x 90mm Shower Niche.

Unfortunately, the only appropriate method of installation for the Mondella shower niche is to screw it to studs and noggins as shown in the Installation Instructions.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
