Does Bunnings have a microcement product for use over tiles in bathroom?

 Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows if Bunnings does a DIY microcement product/kit that we could use to apply over existing tiles in our bathroom?

See attached pic for a reference.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about microcement.

I suggest having a look at this discussion - Rendering over the top of existing tiles by @DopyDingo. Unfortunately, the store does not carry a microcement kit, however, if you are planning on rendering a tile wall, I recommend using the Dunlop 20kg Multipurpose Acrylic Render. Please remember that this is a render, so tile surface preparation is very important and the application of Crommelin 1L Tile On Tile Primer is a must.

The only drawback to rendering a tile wall is the tile itself. Should the tile glue or tile itself fail for any reason, it will reflect on the surface finish of the render.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Alex88. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about applying renders.

Could you please tell us a little more about where you intend to render? Render is a porous material, so it tends to suck in moisture. Given this, it would likely not be the best choice for a wet area like a bathroom. You would certainly need to seal it after applying in order to make it water-resistant. 

Instead of rendering, you might like to consider the Wall Art 2400 x 1200 x 3mm Pumice Matt Wet Area Wall / Shower Panel, which could give you the look you are after. They have samples available on their website if you'd like to check the finish out.

Can these panels be cut to size?

Hi @Alex88,

Unfortunately, Bunnings is unable to cut these panels in-store, however, it is certainly possible to cut them yourself.

If you have a circular saw available to you, I'd advise using a TCT (tungsten-carbide-tipped) circular saw blade such as this Makita 185mm Efficut Composite TCT Saw Blades alongside a straight edge that is clamped to the workpiece.

If you do not have a circular saw, you can use a fine-toothed hand saw such as this Stanley 380mm 8 TPI Tradecut Saw.
