The trap under my semi recessed basin is leaking. You will see from the photo that it is also very jammed into the front of the cabinetry. I suspect this trap was chosen as it is ‘disabled’ bathroom friendly but that is no longer a priority. I obviously need to change the trap and I’m wondering if there is any reason I can’t change it for one of these https://www.bunnings.com.au/caroma-40mm-short-inlet-p-trap_p4783911
it definitely needs to be 40mm size. I’m not sure how to manage the distance between the front of the trap near the front of the cabinet and the back. That dimension of the short inlet trap doesn’t seem to be on the product information page but I could maybe shorten the part where it comes out of the wall. Maybe this would be better but i it doesn’t have a screw/nut at the other end https://www.bunnings.com.au/abey-40mm-pvc-connector-waste-trap_p4760789
thanks in advance
Hello @Coolaholigah
Due to the compact and non-standard nature of your plumbing fittings, I suggest using the Haigh 40mm PVC Telescopic Space Trap. This trap will allow you to reach the plug and waste fitting without having to add more pipework. All you would need to do is to adjust its height and level the trap outlet to the pipe outlet. Please make sure all the fittings are loose so that it is easy to adjust, once you have the proper settings in place you can then begin to tighten the pieces together.
But if it proves to be too challenging, I suggest engaging the services of a plumber to change your basin trap.

Thank you. I saw that telescopic one too but in the picture it seems to go down at the right hand side when I need it to go up. Is it adjustable?
Hello @Coolaholigah
Yes, it is very adjustable and the bottom part of it is very flexible and can be turned to different angles. As I mentioned earlier do a test fit to make sure that all the fitting angles are correct before you tighten all the joints.
