Hi @bobby223
1 There are alot of ergonomics built into such seats to make them work and feel comfortable too.
2 I would search for DIY plans to make one is the best option that way all the many details are mostly considered.
But a cheap solution might be a second-hand office like chair with arm rests. Get them for $20 Maybe a second-hand gaming chair Ebay or Gumtree,
It may be possible to undo the arm rest bolts and add a timber arm extend it forward like a table to mount the steering wheel on.
3 The chair sits on a timber board and locked into place and this will allow your foot pedals to mount on the same board.
If you have a ground board it might be easy to build a timber frame on top on the Allow leg room) of it up to keyboard height / steering wheel height.
I would add side computer keyboard mounts and mouse pad board on a swiveling mount. A simple swivel is a flat board with a nut and bolt with washers in one pivot point, swing it in and out as needed.
Well hope this opens some thinking for you.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @bobby223. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about building a racing rig.
That sounds like a fantastic project, and I'd definitely encourage you to check out other DIY sim racing rigs that people have created. There are tons of resources and inspiration online that could help you figure out the best design for your needs.
Start by sketching out a plan for your rig design—think about the dimensions, the placement of the steering wheel, pedals, and chair, and how to secure everything in place. Having a clear vision from the start will make the build process a lot smoother.
While $40 is a tight budget, I think you might need to expand it slightly to ensure you have the necessary materials and tools. With a budget of under $100, you should be able to get all the components you need. I’ve created some renders below to help you visualise a basic, compact sim racing rig using 2x4s. You can modify these designs based on the specifics of your Logitech Momo Racing wheel and the chair you plan to use.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

what type of wood is the best to use here
Hi @bobby223,
CUSTOMwood 16 x 2400 x 1200mm Raw E0 MDF would be suitable for the panels, and you could use 70 x 35mm pine for the frame.
