Was it the Timber Protect 1L Clear Satin Water Based Interior Quick Varnish that you're referring to?
Most varnishes and polyurethanes, including British Paints Quick Dry Clear, are typically designed for use on bare timber surfaces rather than painted ones. Applying a clear coat over a painted surface can lead to several issues, such as poor adhesion, peeling, or an uneven finish. The clear coat may not bond properly with the paint, especially if the paint is glossy or not fully cured.
Do you have an issue where the paint you've applied isn't durable enough for that application? If so you might to provide more information on your project and the paint that you've used so we can offer suggestions.
