When is tile edging strip suitable for laminate to tile transition?

Hi there,

I have recently had laminate flooring installed throughout my house.

I have slate tile hallway that runs the from one side of the home to the other and all rooms connect to it.

@MitchellMc recommended tile trim (tile edging strip) in an previous July 2022 post. (just to clarify, the flooring & tile is the same height in my case).

Will Tile Edging Strip will be suitable to use for my flooring/tile transition?

I prefer the minimal look of the strip, rather than Roberts Floor Junior Trim - the general go to recommendation.

But my concern is, I will lose the expansion gap along one side of each room or at least partial side of each room. Is this actually okay?

My other concern is, the floorboards have been laid with slight discrepancies in places but I am assuming these can be trimmed to align?

Or if Tile Edging Strip isn't suitable, what is the next best sleek look product?

Apologies for rehashing and thanks for your help

Re: When is Tile Edging Strip Suitable for Laminate to Tile Transition?

Morning @Albany16

My laminate experience is limited. But I thought a lower component of the strip had to be in place before you positioned the floating floor?

But then, that could be just the product I used.

I look forward to other responses and outcome.

Cheers.

Hi @Albany16

A number of options shown here.....

I'm sure that if they don't have them in stock, Bunnings can order them in for you.

Re: When is tile edging strip suitable for laminate to tile transition?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Albany16. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about floor trim.

That's a tile trim, and it's not great at covering the small—to medium-sized gaps that you have. As @Noyade mentioned, it also has a portion that needs to go under the tile/flooring, so it would be difficult to retrofit after the flooring installation. As it's a tile trim, it might not be suitable for the height of your flooring.

@R4addZ has provided the full range of DTA trims, and some might be effective, though they could lack the minimalistic look you're going for.

We have the Hanwood 2.4m Brown Senior End Timbertone Flooring Trim, which would cover the gap and allow the flooring to expand and contract, but once again, it needs to be positioned as the flooring is laid.

I'm thinking the most minimalistic trim at this point would be the QEP 14mm x 1m Transition Cover Trim, which would need to be glued into position with Liquid Nails.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: When is tile edging strip suitable for laminate to tile transition?

Thanks for your replies @Noyade @R4addZ and @MitchellMc .

A friend laid my flooring, a cabinet maker but clearly not an expert on flooring.

I'll purchase the QEP 14mm Transition Cover and finish the job.

Much appreciated!
