I have indoor cedar walls with an old oil stain on them. I want to paint them in Colorbond Monument. I was given a tin of white 3 in 1 undercoat at bunnings. On the can of monument paint, it says that the undercoat should be tinted to monument color or similar, to get best results. Should I use the white one I was told to use, return it, or have it tinted? Thankyou.
Hi @Janina1
Ideally the undercoat color will be a darker base shade for darker colors. As lighter color want light bases.
Option
1 Tint the white 3in 1 at the shop darker will save you painting extra paint layers. I think you must tint it as I am not sure if three in one has base colors
2 Use the white under coat 3 in1 as it is. For the monument all you need to do is paint 3 coats instead of 2 coats to gain the full monument color ( 2 coats may lighten the monument color a degree or two. ) So the extra coats covers over the the lighter shade of monument will give you good strong color results as you wanted.
Either way you will get a good job done.
Thankyou 🙏
