Hello, I've recently had new aluminium windows installed and i need to paint the new wooden reveals. Prior to painting I'm stripping the old paint off the existing sills which have multiple layers of old paint. When stripping this off the caulking which is between the new reveal and old sill is lifting a bit when the paint under comes off.
I'd like to know the best product to use to fix this once I've finished removing the paint to make it tidy to paint over. Some pictures
attached.
Hi @bronc,
Thank you for your question about the best sealant to use between your windowsill and window frames.
I'd suggest No More Gaps as a suitable sealant for this application.
To get a good finish, you'll need to remove the old sealant and reapply a fresh bead of sealant before painting. You can remove the old sealant by using a utility knife to cut the sealant away from the timber surfaces. Ensure you wear gloves and a long-sleeved work shirt while using a knife to avoid any unnecessary lacerations.
Once the old sealant has been removed, give everything a good sand and clean any dust away before applying the No More Gaps.
You might like to check out How To Silicone a Gap for some guidance on the process.
Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
