Upcycled dining set makeover

🪑☑️ DIY Upcycling Project: Dining Set Makeover

We picked up an extendable dining table and chairs from Facebook Marketplace. They needed a good clean and some TLC but were in otherwise good condition. We stripped and sanded the round table top with a belt sander and then sanded the base using an orbital sander. To sand the tighter nooks of the table base and chairs, we sanded by hand.

Once the dining set was stripped down to the raw timber, we painted the base with white chalk paint and varnished the top with a varnish stain in the colour Black Japan. To paint the chairs, we spray painted Zinsser (3 in 1 primer, sealer, stain blocker) then spray painted Taubmans Professional White Enamel Paint.

Very happy with how this budget DIY project turned out and pleased that were were able to upcycle someone else's trash and turn it into a beautiful Hamptons-style dining set.

Re: Upcycled dining set makeover

Well done @homeinmelbourne great job on your project, love the finish used, it gives me great pleasure to see that someone can see the the potential in restoring old furniture.

Are you going to refurbish the original table?

Well done, looking forward to seeing your future projects.

Re: Upcycled dining set makeover

Thank you @JoeAzza for the kind words and encouragement! Yes, the first two ‘after’ photos are of the restored original table. It might look a little different in the photos because it isn’t extended in the middle.

Thank you again for your comment! ☺️

Re: Upcycled dining set makeover

Another wonderful project @homeinmelbourne! As @JoeAzza mentioned, it's simply amazing to see this type of furniture be given a new lease on life. The effort you've gone to has really paid off as you've been left with a fantastic piece of furniture which I'm sure will serve you well for many years to come.

I love that you've kept it simple and gone with a fresh colour and coat of paint. It's a brilliant look.

Well done, and many thanks for sharing.

Mitchell
