Picture hooks will not stick on concrete walls

IMG20211224065440.jpg

Hi folks.

This has happened twice now. I cleaned the spot with turps before sticking the hook on. I left hook for 12 hours after sticking to wall. It was the right hook size for the weight of my picture to go up.

Hung the picture, and a few hours later it felt down. It broke my picture. It seems to be occurring on most of the walls.

The walls are concrete. As you can see the paint job is very thin.

I'm not sure what is causing the issue but I want to resolve it so it does not keep occuring. I had success with one hook so far on the same wall. Picture is hanging fine.

However, it is dicey. What is causing this problem?

I do not want to do nails. It's pretty hard with concrete walls.

Thanks

Wouldy

"I simply hammered a nail into the wall for the picture."

Re: Picture hooks will not stick on concrete walls

Hi

I've had the exact same issue except i did use alcohol to clean the surface and used 'permastik' large cosmo wire hooks 1.5kg.  (BTW The pictures do not weigh this much).  Thankfully i haven't tried to hang anything but the hook just fell off the wall after hours.  And this morning , some 10hours after, i touched it and it came away.  Hopeless!!

Advice?

Hi @TULES

"'permastik' large cosmo wire hooks 1.5kg."

Is it this product - with seven one star reviews?

Re: Picture hooks will not stick on concrete walls

Hi @TULES,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I'm sorry to hear that the hooks you have purchased are not performing as expected. I'd suggest returning them to the store of purchase with your receipt and replacing them with hooks with a higher weight rating such as this Command™ Large White Adhesive Wire Hook or a mechanically fastened hook such as these Zenith 10kg Brass Plated SureHook Masonry Picture Hangers.

Ultimately, adhesive hooks rely on the surface being perfectly flat and clean for the hook to hold strong to the wall. If this is not possible in your situation, a hook that is mechanically fastened will almost always work better.

Let me know if you have any questions or require any further assistance.

Jacob
