Need a food-grade varnish for ceramics
Hi,
I decorate fired ceramics with acrylic paint and am looking for a food grade varnish that dries clear and makes the item safe for practical/everyday use e.g. drinking and eating out of. Could you direct me to the best product for this purpose please?
Thanks and Happy New Year
Jane

Re: Creating and finishing with ceramics
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Jane16. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about finishing ceramics.
Happy New Year to you too!
That sounds like a bit of a specialised product, and I'm unaware of anything that would suit your needs. Our food-grade varnishes are designed for timber and not ceramics. There is the possibility of using Protite 750ml Glass Coat Kit, but it needs a food-grade polyurethane applied over the top of it.
Many readily available products are non-toxic, but products that have been tested and received a food-grade rating are typically only produced for common uses like oiling/varnishing timber kitchen benchtops and chopping boards.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
