Is it safe to seal the gap between the eave board and brick exterior?
Is it safe to seal the gap between the eave board and brick exterior?will it cause problems with ventilation/moisture.
a lot of crickets have gone inside this gap and making noise, i just did a pest spray and number of them came out from these gaps.
- if i can not seal is there a product that allows airflow while still deterring pests.
Also i have observed some stain marks on the eaves not sure where they have come from. I have just bought this property and moved in.

Hello @goyal03
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your eave.
Sealing the gap between your eave board and brick wall can be beneficial in some cases but may also create issues depending on ventilation and moisture control. If the gap is large enough for pests like wasps, rodents, or birds to enter, sealing it with a flexible exterior sealant can help keep them out. It can also reduce drafts and improve insulation, especially if air leaks into your roof space.
However, some homes rely on gaps in the eaves for passive airflow to the roof cavity, and blocking this can trap moisture and heat, leading to mould, wood rot, or overheating in summer. In some cases, small openings allow for moisture drainage, and sealing them might cause water to become trapped, leading to long-term damage. Before sealing, it’s important to check whether your roof has adequate ventilation.
For small gaps, an exterior-grade flexible sealant such as Selleys 430g White No More Gaps Exterior Gap Filler that expands and contracts with temperature changes is a good option.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
