Hi all, I have 3 skylights in my two storey townhouse. One in the main bathroom, one in the ensuite and one in the upstairs hallway. All are 300mm / 30cm round skylights. I have removed the plastic internal cover and found that the internal reflective tubing has a hole / has torn in at least 2 of them. I am wondering if it is possible to repair this or if the entire reflective tubing would need replacing?
During tenants staying, the plastic internal cover has also been siliconed down in a few places to stop it living with wind (probably caused by the tube hole which is allowing bugs in). Any tips for successfully removing the sealant? It’s a thick few pieces around 8mm-10mm thick and around 3-4cm long in multiple places. One of the two covers has snapped while being removed so I will need to replace it.
Thank you for any help!
Hi @DIYAccountant,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
Unfortunately, that tear in the duct looks beyond repair. You could give it a try with some Ametalin 48mm x 50m Insulation / Ducting Tape, but it looks like the rip is too wide for it to be easy.
I'd suggest you grab some replacement ducts such as these EzyLite 300mm Round x 3m Flexishafts. It will be much easier to replace them than to repair them.
Removing the silicone can usually be done with just a scraper, but if it is particularly stubborn, some Selleys Silicone Remover can help loosen it up for removal.
Once the silicone has been removed, you can replace the diffuser panel with this Ezylite 300mm Clear Round Skylight Diffuser Panel.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
