This crack is near the apex of an archway of brick & plaster. It has been repaired before, but there's a degree of movement, so it keeps coming back.
I have read that one option maybe to use jointing tape, as this may take up some of the movement.
Just wondering if there are any other suggestions or options?
Thank you.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @RubberSeoul. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a crack.
It looks like the crack you're dealing with is quite substantial and may be indicative of a structural issue, especially since it's around an archway made from brick and plaster. While jointing tape is typically used for minor cracks in drywall and to manage slight movement, it’s not suitable for cracks that suggest more significant structural movement.
Given the location and nature of the crack, I would strongly recommend removing the plaster around the affected area to better assess what might be causing the movement. It's important to investigate whether there’s any shifting or damage to the underlying structure, especially with brickwork involved. If this crack is structural, it could pose a risk to the stability of the entire arch.
I’d advise seeking professional help from a builder or structural engineer who can properly diagnose the issue and ensure that any necessary repairs are done safely and effectively. Simply patching the crack with tape or filler could mask the problem, but without addressing the root cause, the crack is likely to return or worsen over time.
