How to remove and replace this metal plate on flyscreen door?

Tim663_0-1732680510569.png

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering what tools I need to replace the black plate on the flyscreen door and what the plate is actually called?

I wanted to replace the flyscreen on the front door, I know how to replace it on the sliding doors thanks to this community and youtube but I haven't been able to find information about removing the black plate.

From my quick googling, I believe the plate is for security purposes? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks In advance!

Re: How to remove and replace this metal plate on flyscreen door?

Hello @Tim663

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about the metal plate on your flyscreen door.

That metal plate is a door lock guard, it prevents people from slipping their fingers through security mesh and flipping the snib to open the security door. These days a lot of people use Rolltrak Clear Universal Fit Door Lock Guard. But you can still reuse your current door guard, it's being held in place with blind rivets. In order to remove them, you'll need a drill and a drill bit to fit through the center of the rivet. The drill bit must be slightly bigger than the hole in the rivet otherwise it will not remove it properly.

To re-install the guard, you'll need to use a Craftright Rivet Gun Set. It comes with a few sample rivets and multiple head sizes.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Eric
