I have purchased a Deta touch activated single smart switch (6911B). I cannot get it to go into pairing mode. I hold the switch button down for 5 - 10 seconds as shown in the grid connect website and all the google topics on pairing. I have tried many times and the led wont flash as required and the phone app wont pickup the device.
Can anyone let me know what I can do.
I have previously purchased Deta smart plug bases. They go into pairing mode easily and work fine, but they have a separate pairing button.
Do I take this back to the store and get a new one?
Did you install this yourself and if so, how many wires were there for you to connect?
The reason I ask is twofold, 1 it is illegal to carry out electrical work if you are not a licensed electrician and 2 these switches require a neutral wire which most switches are not wired with as a conventional switch only requires an active and a return
The switch is not installed. I am programming them all prior to the electrical installing them. The neutral wire is installed otherwise the switch would not go on or off, the relay would not go on or off, and the LED would not come on.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @lachlan-peter. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about Deta Smart switches.
If the switches are connected as required and the pairing function is not working then you could assume they might be faulty and require replacement. However, it sounds like your best would be to contact Grid connect technical directly on cs@arlec.com.au or 1300 267 168 to verify. That way you can explain how they've been connected and they can troubleshoot the issue with you.
As mentioned by @R4addZ, electrical work needs to be carried out by a licensed electrician. Please don't risk your safety by trying to pre-program the units before installation.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am a chartered electrical engineer so I fully understand the Australia electrical requirements. I design electrical systems for industrial facilities and hydrocarbon processing, including control systems (which are the industrial version of these grid connect devices). I was not asking about the electrical connectivity but simply asking about getting this device into pairing mode.
Often there is a trick in getting these devices into pairing mode and I was hoping to draw on other people's experience.
Do Arlec supply the Deta branded devices? If so, I will contact them as you suggest.
Lachlan
Yes, Arlec supply the Deta brand.
Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to hearing that you've managed to get your switch into pairing mode. We'll definitely want to know if there is a technique to get into pairing mode.
