Hi,
The rubber sealants (not quite sure if this is what they are called) underneath the aluminium window frames have come out leaving big gaps.
Is this something I can replace by myself? I am just a beginner in DIY.
Also, I couldn't find these rubber things in Bunnings. Where can I buy them and what's the best way to fix this?
Thank you.
Hi @prabs,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
These rubber seals are usually proprietary and part of the window system so it is unlikely you will find an off-the-shelf replacement.
This skirting seal is not there as a weatherproofing measure, it is mainly there to keep dirt, leaves and other debris out of the cavity between the brick sill and the window.
Luckily, there is nothing wrong with your seal, it has just slipped out of place, likely because of the natural expansion and contraction of the rubber. You should be able to just slip it back under the edge of the window frame by angling the rubber, so the top edge slips under the frame and then pushing the bottom edge, so it compresses and slips under the window frame.
Let me know how you go and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
