Hello @elizabethalex

Thanks for sharing your question regarding the gap in your door frame. You have the option of filling the gap with Selleys 475g No More Gaps Interior Multipurpose Gap Filler. Another method would be to slide in a 3 or 4mm MDF board and tracing the outline of the door frame. The outline would then be cut and wood glue spread on its surface and slid into the gap. Wipe away the excess glue and allow it to dry off before you paint MDF board.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

Good Evening @elizabethalex

@EricL has suggested both ways I would fill that gap, The multipurpose gap filler would be the easiset but im not sure how it would look. You could try one side of the door frame and see if you are happy with it. If not use a sharp knife and scrape/cut it out and then try the timber suggestion.

Re: How to fix gap between vinyl planks and door frame?

Hi @elizabethalex

Looks like the installers of the floating floor have over-cut the door frame and architrave.

The simplest solution would be to use the flexible gap filler @EricL has suggested. Before applying, use painters tape over the boards inline with the outline of the door frame. Then fill the gaps with the filler.

Apply a very light spray of water with a drop of dishwashing liquid. Use a flat bladed spatula (cheap plastic one will do) on its side to wipe along the edge of the timber frame all the way around. Let it dry off over a couple of hours.

Wipe the edge of the tape and see how it looks. If need be, use a matching paint to brush over the silicone. Allow to dry then remove the painters tape.
