I have paint and render peeling off the outside of my house. It sits above the garage which does have some damp under the house parts to it. I thought the problem was the pavers leading to water pooling against the wall but now someone has suggested it is rising damp from the garage. I don’t know who to call. A plumber? A landscaper? Any suggestions? Also who do I get to fix the concreting around the pool? Thanks for any suggestions!
Hi @maggiejane,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
It's hard to say whether the issue is due to rising damp from the photos you've provided, but assessing this is certainly the place to start as rising damp can lead to other issues. I'd suggest contacting a company that specializes in rising damp rectification work for their assessment of the problem. If the issue does come from rising damp, then the repair could be quite involved.
If they determine that the issue is not due to rising damp, rather pooling water as you suspected, I'd suggest contacting a landscaper to assist with relaying the paved patio so the water falls away from your property.
The render looks to be in fair condition, but if there are sections that are particularly bad, I'd suggest contacting a handyman who has some experience painting and rendering. You could go to the effort of looking for a renderer and a painter, but it is likely there are handymen with some experience in both. They will not specialise in either, but the job looks fairly small, so it should be manageable.
For the pool, I would suggest contacting a company that specialises in pool resurfacing.
You can use a service such as HiPages or True Local to find tradies and business that carry out this type of work in your area.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
