How to build media room raised platform?

Hi, I'm planning to build a 6x2m raised paltform/deck in the media room to put a set of recliners on this.

Just wondering that is it ok to use 19mm yellow tounge board as the floor for this deck and use MGP10 treated pine for the frame?

Is it possible to paint the yellow tounge board in a smooth finish? O rit better to put carpet or vinyl planks on top? I will have two steps/stairs as well, so was thinking that paint is the easiet to do if possible.

Hello @pash81

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your raised platform.

It's ok to use yellow tongue and MGP10 for your raised platform. However, I suggest using carpet or vinyl planks on top as the yellow tongue surface is not perfectly flat. Placing purpose-built products for high wear such as carpet or vinyl planks would last much longer.

I also suggest having a look at these discussions:

Re: How to build media room raised platform?

Hi pash81...

The treated pine will be OK for the frame but it needs to be 45mm thick x width of the board..That can be determined by a calculator which you will find on this website..

 https://www.theaterseatstore.com/blog/home-theater-riser-guide

That website should give you all the information you need..

A couple of things..The top board should be 19mm MDF..As Eric mentioned the yellow tongue boards will be uneven..

The other thing is you must cover the MDF board and the steps with carpet..and the internal of the platform will need to have acoustic fibre glass filled inside..

The platform needs to be acoustically dead as possible..
