How hard would it be to build the this? Or would it be easier and cheaper to purchase one as I think you can buy them for around $60.

Realistically, the cost of the materials would be more than the purchase price. However, if a custom-sized unit would suit your needs better and you have a reasonable amount of D.I.Y. skills, you might consider creating it yourself.
Perhaps if you post some pictures of the desk and provide a few more details on the problem you'd like to solve, our members might have other more cost-effective options. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images.
