Re: How to add flyscreen to awning window?

Hi @Taroon,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

There shouldn't be any issues installing a flyscreen on your window, but there is a little bit of complexity because of the window winder.

A flyscreen frame should be able to slot between the two ribs I have shown below.

Check out How to build a flyscreen frame for some guidance on the process of constructing your frame.

You can use Pillar 25mm x 2.5m Black Flyscreen Frame to construct your flyscreen frame so it matches with the rest of the window.

Once the frame has been put together, you'll need to cut a hole in the frame so the chain on your Whitco Black Lockable Window Winder can slip through and act as intended. The hole will need to be big enough for the chain sash plate to slip through.  Sit the flyscreen flame in place and mark out the location of your cut. I've circled the part I am speaking about below.

This hole can be cut with a rotary tool like this Ozito Rotary Tool or a Dremel Rotary Tool

You'll have to wind out the window, disconnect the chain sash plate from the window, slip the chain sash plate through the cut-out in your flyscreen frame, and then slip the flyscreen into place before reattaching the chain sash plate to the window.

This will allow your awning window to open as it does now with the inclusion of a flyscreen frame to stop the bugs getting in.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
