Chez made this painting a while back and has suggested many times how good it would look with an old fence paling style frame. With Valentine’s Day approaching seems no better time to make it happen.
A couple of old hardwood fence palings
1 sheet 3mm plywood
Joining hardware
Screws
Hanging hardware
Lacquer
Dropsaw
Cordless screwdriver
Square
Clamps
Sharp knife/boxcutter
Saw horses
Flat surface (table or similar)
Sandpaper
Paintbrush
Work out lengths required for old palings.
Cut ends at required angles.
Apply 2 coats of lacquer to chosen good side & edges of palings & allow to dry.
Cut plywood sheet to size.
Mount picture to plywood.
Clamp paling components face down to bench & measure diagonally to make square.
Position plywood on back of palings & clamp down.
Fit joining hardware to back of frame/plywood.
Fit hanging hardware.
Hi @WaynoandChez,
What a lovely painting of such friendly-looking cows. They've now got a frame befitting them just in time for Valentine's Day.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful project.

Morning @WaynoandChez
That looks great and the corners are outstanding! Ive seen various versions around over the years but the finishing of yours is so nice. Love the angle brackets at the back to keep them in place! Mmmm Just had a second look at the back and the ply is under them, The angled brackets are to give it strength?
