Glue suitable to bond aluminium strip to carpet?

Thank you for your question about gluing an aluminium strip to carpet.

Carpet is not a great material to glue anything to because of its textured nature. If you have a low pile carpet, you'll have much more success than plush carpet, but it is still not a great surface to glue to.

You can use Liquid Nails but there's no guarantee it will hold for a long time.

Could you perhaps tell us a little more about why you need to adhere an aluminium strip to carpet? That way our members would be better informed and hopefully able to offer other solutions. Perhaps a more permanent solution would be to screw or nail the strip through the carpet into the subfloor timber.

I'm keen to her more and offer further assistance.

My husband is 87 and doesn’t want to drill into brick and concrete to secure a right angled strip of aluminium to the carpet he has attached to a small step (one brick height and depth), so that it matches the carpet .

I hope this makes sense.

I'm in agreement with my teammates in regards to the fixing of the aluminium strip. Carpet is not a sound material to anchor onto. I'm aware that your husband is not keen on drilling into the brick, but I can't think of another method to anchor it without the aluminium coming off. I recommend reconsidering this anchoring method. It doesn’t require multiple fixings; simply adding anchor points at each end of the aluminium should be sufficient to hold it in place.

I can hear the discussion So I have a couple of questions first then maybe an answer.

For the step is it timber or concrete under the carpet? It makes a differance strength wise drilling through brick is why I ask.

I know I have put off jobs before because my arm is weak/pains from tendinitus. I try and think of workarounds

Its not worth doing a not so secure job (as in gluing carpet), especially on a step of any kind. The pain is not worth it.

So how about when you go down the street next or if you get junk mail you kep an eye out for a handy person advertising. 

Even in the Big Blue F social media page you can look up your local handy people and see examples of their work.

My mum uses a handy person to do a bunch of things for her, not because I am a slack son but we kinda clash over "how to" do the job even tho she has asked me you get the drift. The handy person is peace of mind, someone she is happy with and someone who is capable of doing the work for me. I may not agree with everything the handy person does but mum is happy.

Hi @Barbbillk1  a few houses I have been tasked to prepare for sale carpet that was worn short of the aluminium trim that met tiles or floorboards. I can't say how long term the fix was, but I used this SIKA product to re-secure the carpet which I blended in fine clippings of carpet from the inside of a wardrobe to fill any gaps.
