I picked up this three drawer cabinet from Facebook Marketplace and restored it.
Materials used :
1. Bondall 500ml Waterbased Paint & Varnish Stripper
2. Pro Renovator 38mm Plastic Scraper
3. Cabot's 250ml Walnut Water Based Interior Stain
4. Syneco 350mm White Drawer Slides - 1 Pair
5. Prestige 71mm Black Twist T Shape Knob
6. Cabot's 250ml Satin Water Based Cabothane Clear Interior Varnish
First step was to strip off the old varnish and sand it down. I used Bondall 500ml Waterbased Paint & Varnish Stripper for this. Applied a 1 mm thick layer on all varnished surfaces and let it sit for about 2 hours. Then scraped it off with the scraper.
Using a stripper saved a lot of effort in sanding down the surface. Was a bit tricky in the corners and curved surfaces of the drawer face, but I slightly bent the plastic scraper and managed to get the stripper off. Remaining stripper residue was wiped off with mineral turpentine and allowed to dry. All surfaces were then sanded down with 80 grit and then 240 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.
Applied two coats of Cabot's 250ml Walnut Water Based Interior Stain followed by three coats of Cabot's 250ml Satin Water Based Cabothane Clear Interior Varnish.
I also replaced the drawer slides and handles.
Finally, all done :
Hi @vr_syd
Thank you so much for sharing the progress shots of your restoration. The prep work was just outstanding and the finish that you applied is just amazing. It looks like a very expensive drawer piece with that paintwork and the handles compliment the overall look.
Again, thank you for sharing such a wonderful cabinet drawer restoration.
