Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you so much for joining us and sharing your question about adding tint to white paint to turn it black.

The quick answer is yes, white paint can be tinted to black. However, each paint brand has its own level of black. On your next visit to the store, I suggest looking at the colour samples, specifically in the black range. There are a few levels of black, have a look and see which one is to your liking. Once you've chosen your black colour, give it to your store's paint specialist and they will mix a batch for you.

I've often wondered about buying paint and the tinting involved, this has inadvertently answered a number of my questions as well.

I agree in that it depends on what you are painting with respect to materials (wood, metal, etc) or the finish you need.

This sort of thing confuses a lot of DIY people, as it is not well known how a given paint can be tinted and to what degree.
